Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash).

Relationship profile: During onboarding you provide relationship details (partner name, relationship status, years together, love language, attachment style, personal goals). This information is used solely to personalize your counseling experience.

Session content: Messages you exchange with the MelanVow AI counselor are stored to power session history, summaries, and homework features. We do not use your session content to train AI models.

Payment information: Billing is processed by Stripe, Inc. We do not store your full credit card number. We receive a customer ID and subscription status from Stripe.

Usage data: We collect standard server logs including IP address, browser type, and pages visited for security and performance purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• To personalize your AI counseling sessions
• To process subscription payments and manage your account
• To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)
• To monitor for security threats and prevent abuse
• To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your session content or relationship profile for advertising purposes.

3. Sensitive Information

Relationship and mental health-related information you share through the Service may be considered sensitive personal data under applicable privacy laws (including CCPA and GDPR). We apply heightened protections to this data:

• Session content is encrypted at rest and in transit
• Access is restricted to essential service operations only
• We do not share session content with third parties except as required by law
• Voice sessions (ElevenLabs) are processed in real time and are not recorded or stored by MelanVow

4. Information Sharing

We share your information only with:

• Supabase — database hosting and authentication (supabase.com/privacy)
• Anthropic — AI model provider that processes your messages to generate counselor responses (anthropic.com/privacy). Anthropic does not use your data to train models under our API agreement.
• Stripe — payment processing (stripe.com/privacy)
• ElevenLabs — voice AI processing for Voice plan users (elevenlabs.io/privacy)
• Law enforcement — when required by valid legal process or to prevent imminent harm

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and session data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for fraud prevention purposes.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell data)
• Data portability — receive a copy of your data in a machine-readable format

7. Cookies

We use session cookies required for authentication. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but this may prevent you from logging in.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at privacy@melanvow.app.

9. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest, and strict access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes by email or through an in-app notice at least 14 days before changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
